• 1. What is the surrounding community like?

We are located in the beautiful, small town of Millersville, Pennsylvania. It is a safe, quiet town that provides most services that students need within walking distance. A few miles east of Millersville is historic Lancaster City, while a few miles west is the rolling farmland that Lancaster County is famous for. There are many beautiful sights, both urban and rural, that are easily accessible from Immerse’s campus.

    2. What activities are offered to students and residents?

Immerse is much more than a school or residence hall. We are a thriving community of people committed to creating a family-type atmosphere for each person who is a part of our community. To see more about community life opportunities, click here.

Besides social activities like bowling, game nights, pizza parties, and downtown Lancaster events, we offer outings to sporting events, fairs and festivals, and day trips to nearby cities like Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New York City.

    3. How much does it cost to live and study at Immerse?

Costs depend on the English program in which you are enrolled and whether you are in a single or shared room. View our current prices here: housing prices or English courses.

  • 4. What courses are offered and who can study at Immerse?

We offer both part-time and full-time academic English courses, as well as TOEFL preparations courses. U.S. residents may choose to study part-time or full-time at Immerse. Students on a tourist visa must study part-time and students coming on an F-1 visa must study full-time.

All courses award a certificate of completion and some courses may allow for admission to several colleges and universities in the USA.

    5. How long do I need to learn English?

Depending on proficiency level, students will need at least one semester (16 weeks) to perfect their English for college or university enrollment, but this depends on your current level of English and your goals.  We offer 3 levels of English, each level lasting a total of 16 weeks.  Once you complete a level you will be able to progress to the next level.

    6. Are Immerse instructors qualified?

All instructors in the IELP have Master’s Degrees or higher and multiple years of teaching experience both in the US and abroad.

    7. What size are the classes?

Our small size allows us to give individual instruction and support to each student. Classes are generally from 5-10 people and are capped at 12.

    8. What are the key features of the curriculum?

The curriculum focuses on how academic English is used in each of the four domains of language learning: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.

Materials and assessments are taken from the kinds of topics and assignments students can expect to receive in a University classroom.

Students are given assignments that allow them to understand and practice key language principles while also expressing their own creativity and interests.

Grading is based on specific, clearly defined criteria so that students know the skills they need to improve on to reach the next level of English proficiency.

    9. Does Immerse have specific university partners?

Immerse has signed articulation agreements with the following universities. Students that graduate from Immerse can be admitted to these institutions without further ESL testing or classes (but still need to meet other university requirements):

    Elizabethtown College

    Marymount University

    Messiah University

    10. I am not ready to apply for the IELP, are there other options to study at Immerse?

We offer individual or small-group tutoring based on individual needs and teacher availability. Please contact us if you are interested in this.

    11. Do you offer academic advising?

Immerse International works closely with our students to meet their academic goals. Our advising team gives students assistance in applying to the college or university of their choice. Students will receive assistance with finding schools and choosing programs, completing application documents, writing personal statements, and contacting schools for more information.

    12. If I am a full-time student, what are my options for lunch?

We take a 30 minute break for lunch. Students are encouraged to bring their own food for lunch. A refrigerator and microwave is available in our Academic Center. There are also a few restaurants in walking distance including Subway (sandwiches) and Domino’s Pizza as well as a grocery store and some other restaurants just a short drive away. Students who live in our International House can return home to have their lunch there as normal.

  • 13. Is Immerse housing affordable?

We are often asked whether living at Immerse is affordable or not. Compared to area colleges and universities, or living off-campus in an apartment, the International House at Immerse is a great place to live if you want to save money and get to know people from all over the world. We also provide field trips, game nights, and housing during holidays and summers.

    14. What about meals?

Our International House has a kitchen and dining room for shared us. Each resident gets designated space to store their food with dishes, utensils, pots, and pans provided.

    15. If I am also studying English at Immerse, how far from my residence hall are my classes?

Our English classes are a short walk from your residence hall to the academic center where you will study English. All of our facilities are on-site (indoor gymnasium, athletic field, dining room, and administrative offices).

I like studying English at Immerse International because it is such a good place. Teachers are amazing! And studying with students from all over the world is such an open-minded experience. Small classes are also an asset to learn in a good way.
