What Parents Want to Know
Residents and students living at Immerse International are typically over 18 years of age and considered legal adults in the United States. However, parents whose “adult” children are traveling to the U.S. and living at Immerse International will appreciate knowing the following about our programs, services and facilities.
SAFETY – Students living at Immerse International will be very safe. Our campus is not located in a city or area where there is a lot of crime. In orientation, we tell students how to be careful just in case, but safety concerns have not been an issue. Immerse has been offering self-defense classes for residents for added peace of mind. These are available once a year.
CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE – Students living at Immerse International will grow in their cultural intelligence from living in community with students from all over the world. Usually 13-15 countries are represented on our campus at any time. They will be prepared professionally and academically to succeed in an increasingly global society.
ENGLISH – Students living at Immerse International will improve in their English by being immersed 24 hours per day, seven days a week. Roommates are assigned so that English is the common language everywhere at Immerse. All residents at Immerse may request help with their English, on their essays and other papers, or their professional documents. Formal English classes and tutoring are available right on campus.
COMFORTABLE ROOMS and FACILITIES – Students living at Immerse International will have comfortable rooms. There are shared bathrooms by floor. Men and women live on separate floors. Community Standards are in place to help everyone live and function well together. These include guidelines about visiting other living areas, consumption of alcohol, and other parts of life. Immerse International is an intentional community. It is fun to live here. It is also a privilege to live here, so there are some expectations communicated in these standards. Laundry, storage, computers, television, WiFi and recreation options are available on our campus.
PREPARED MEALS – Lunches and dinners are prepared for students Monday-Friday by a professional cook with many years of experience. ServeSafe and other health code practices are strictly followed. Food is conveniently located for resident use to prepare breakfast or weekend meals. A student kitchen is available for students to prepare their own special meals. If there are food allergies or specific food restrictions, our cook will accommodate the needs of the student.
CARING STAFF – The staff of Immerse International is made up of people with experience living in other countries, experience learning another language, and who are concerned that every student do well. We interact with all students on a daily basis. The Community Life Coordinator is assigned to help every student feel comfortable, to engage with others, and to enjoy the social community activities. The Director of Residential Services is on site to help students feel at home and make sure their needs are met. The Director of Academic Services is available for advising on matters related to English, academics or other matters.
