- Why Immerse?
English students at Immerse International will receive a student handbook and other information as part of their registration and orientation process. These materials and activities will help students to understand all of the benefits of study and expectations for students. As part of their registration, students will be asked to sign that they have read and understood the handbook and the following class participation agreement.
Class Participation Agreement (English Students ONLY)
Introduction: Classes at the English Language School at Immerse International are very much community-driven. We strive to create an effective and pleasant environment where all students from anywhere in the world may learn in a safe and positive environment. There are few greater opportunities than learning together with people from around the world sharing from their life experiences. English students are strongly encouraged to participate in this community life in the classroom and by enjoying conversational English over lunch in the Immerse dining room. Field trips and events are often available for residents and students.
Classroom Procedures: Teachers will do everything possible for the success of all students. Teachers may even nudge students out of their comfort zones in order to enhance their language learning. To that end, we will arrange students so that they are not sitting next to someone with the same language or cultural background. This, of course, will increase independence in English.
Participation: By enrolling, students are agreeing to participate fully, be cooperative, and otherwise do all they can to enhance the learning environment. Participation means taking part in each activity, following instructions, giving one’s best effort, and being a proactive learner.
Use of Electronic Devices: Electronic devices can be great tools for learning. They can also be a great distraction to learning. On the latter, teachers have the right to require that you not bring them to class. NOTE: IMMERSE has computers available for online language activities.
IMMERSE reserves the right to dismiss any student whose behavior is deemed disruptive, dangerous, distracting or inappropriate. This includes students not contributing to class or otherwise not actively participating in creating a good learning environment as described above.
